Eric Hochgeschurz Takes 2nd Place at the Grand Prix de Mirabel!
Ottawa (Ontario), July 5th, 2010 - Eric
Hochgeschurz, driver of the 8legs Racing #11 BMW, finished second
in the Canadian Touring Car feature race at the Grand Prix de
Mirabel this past weekend. His best finish to date brings
Hochgeschurz into the top 5 in the Super Touring class in
Championship points.
A very productive test day on Friday allowed Eric Hochgeschurz
to develop further confidence in this season's newly built #11
BMW. Excellent weather, a well-prepared car, consistent
driving, and some luck combined for a nearly perfect weekend
result.
Hochgeschurz qualified a respectable 10th on Saturday
morning. A great clean start in Race One on Saturday
afternoon saw the 8legs Racing BMW move up six positions by
mid-race, but despite a hard run at the 3rd place #36
Subaru WRX, Hochgeschurz finished in 4th place.
Sunday afternoon was another hot and humid day at Le Circuit
ICAR. During the pace lap, the BMW of Greg Pootmans had a
mechanical failure leaving a gap in the first row starting
position. As the green flag flew, Eric Hochgeschurz seized
the opportunity and moved into 2nd place on the first
lap where he would build a gap while trying to chase down the race
leader. A full course yellow in lap five tightened up the
field, and Eric briefly lost a position to the Camirand Competition
BMW Z3 coupe; but due to a mechanical failure in the Z3, this did
not last. Clean racing and good defending kept Eric in
2nd place and in front of the hard charging #12 RSX
until the race was finished early under a red flag.
"Eric drove a perfect race," commented Arek Wojciechowski, 8legs
Racing crew chief. "He had a great start, consistent lap
times, great racing lines, and he defended his position
well." He added: "The crew worked hard to provide a great
car, and we were all grinning during the feature race!"
After the emotional podium celebration, Eric Hochgeschurz said:
"The car was fantastic for the entire race! I just focused on
driving my lines and not driving in my mirrors. I thought back to
my SoloSprint days, and just drove against the clock. It was
an awesome end to the weekend!"
